Most Mums feel lost under the weight of cooking, heaps of washing and piles of ironing. Do you find your most frequent role is as an entertainer or nurse for your children’s bumps and bruises? Or have you simply progressed to being your kids social secretary and taxi service?
These are really valid feelings arising from the pressures of motherhood. I certainly feel all of these things at various points during the week…..and whilst I know that, on the whole, most Mums enjoy their role and have lots of fun with their kids as well, there are times when we need to think about ourselves too.
What I want to remind us all of is that we are also women! I want to celebrate our womanhood! Especially relevant with International Women’s day coming up next week….Let’s unearth our playful side, and rediscover our beauty.
Photographing women is something I’ve always enjoyed and I’ve had fun recently creating great images so we remember that we are more than just Mums tidying up muddy boots….as sometimes we do need to be reminded!
There’s loads in the media about Black Swan and the emergence of a trend towards using wings and feathers in adverts and fashion. In one photoshoot we gave some thought to exploring the femininity and sensuality of wearing feathered capes. This developed into the fantasy of winged angels and wicked angels!
It’s really theraputic to take some time and give thought to how we want to see ourselves…..to feel good about who we are. An antidote to everyday life which we lead at 100 miles an hour!
You don’t need to have specific ideas to begin with. This comes out over a coffee in your home environment. We explore a vision and expand upon it.
Whether its about great underwear or escapism, photographing women and making them look and feel fantastic about themselves is what I aim to do!
